Princess Ida
or Castle Adamant

A Rough Guide

King Hilderbrand and his court await the arrival of King Gama and his daughter Ida.  20 Years ago Ida was promised to Hilderbrand's son, Hilarion.  It is now time for the marriage of the two houses.
Gama arrives with his three  warrior sons but no Ida!

It transpires that Ida has shut herself away in Castle Adament forsaking men and with 100 other women has set up a women's university.

Hilarion, with his friends Cyril and Florian climb into the college and disguising themselves, oh so convincingly, as women enter the college.  All goes well until, over lunch, a drunken Cyril gives the game away.

Hilderbrand then arrives stating the Ida brothers will be executed unless Ida resolved to marry Hilarion.

The scene is set for battle between the women of Adamant and Hilderbrand's men.  But we're already in Act III, so Ida, implausibly, gives in.
